Hey! Norma here, with another DecoArt Media project. I’m super excited to share my India inspired painted elephant with you today. I absolutely LOVE the way this turned out and I hope you do too. So, let’s get to it!
Items Needed:
- DecoArt Media Mediums and Specialty Products - Modeling Paste - White (DMM21-71)
- DecoArt Media Mediums and Specialty Products - Gesso - Black (DMM19-71)
- Assorted Brushes
- Chalk Art Pencil
- White Gel Pens
- Stretched Canvasq
- Stazon Ink%3A Black
Instructions:
I decided to start off with a dark base so I covered my canvas with three layers of black gesso. This gave a nice smooth background to build upon. Next lay down blues, reds, purples and a touch of yellow.
Use various shades of blues and purples to paint the elephant creating shadows and highlights as you go. Add extra depth to the background using vermillion. Spray with water to continue with the dripping effect.
Next add beautiful details to your painted elephant using a combination of white paint, white gel pens and gold paint. You also want to use all the background colors to add highlights and lowlights to your elephant.
Add interest to the background by painting the flowers and randomly stamping various bohemian designs everywhere. Be sure to go back over the stamped designs with your background colors to help intergrade them into the overall design.
Next add beautiful details to your painted elephant using a combination of white paint, white gel pens and gold paint. You also want to use all the background colors to add highlights and lowlights to your elephant.
I used the antiquing cream to tone down the colors once I was completely done with my canvas. The antiquing cream helps give the canvas that warm rich tone. Thank you so much for joining me today!! Let me know if you have any questions in the comments section. Have a beautiful day!
