INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: Let dry completely between painting steps.

  1. Place the Brocade Motif stencil on top of the canvas and use a stencil brush to fill in the stencil with Primary Cyan.
    Step 0 Example
  2. Mix White Tinting Base with a little bit of Cobalt Teal Hue and brush it onto the canvas with a flat brush. Add streaks of more White Tinting Base and Cobalt Teal Hue to create diagonal light and dark areas in the background. (Cover about 3/4 of the canvas.)
    Step 1 Example
  3. Mix a small amount of White Tinting Base with Green Gold and fill in the bottom of the canvas, using a small round brush. Add streaks of Green Gold and Cobalt Turquoise Hue from the bottom of the canvas up to add grass.
    Step 2 Example
  4. Print off the two patterns and align them so the flower images line up. (Apply painter's tape onto the backs to hold the two pieces of paper together.) Use transfer paper and a pencil to transfer the pattern onto the canvas. Fill in the flowers with White Gesso.
    Step 3 Example
  5. Working on the flowers from right to left, paint in the bottom right flowers with Dioxazine Purple and Titanium White. Use a small round brush to add dots of each color next to each other to create the flower.
    Step 4 Example
  6. Paint in the large coneflowers with Quinacridone Magenta and Titanium White for the petals. Use more Quinacridone Magenta to the left side of the petal and add more Titanium White as you work your way to the right side of the petal. Use Burnt Umber and Carbon Black to paint the centers with a round brush.
    Step 5 Example
  7. Paint in the poppies with a combination of Naphthol Red Light and Carbon Black. Use more Carbon Black and a round brush to create the shadows.
    Step 6 Example
  8. Paint in the small blue flower with Primary Cyan and Titanium White. Use a swirling motion with the round brush to help blend the colors a little.
    Step 7 Example
  9. Paint in the pink flowers with Titanium White and blend in small amounts of Quinacridone Magenta toward the center of each petal with a small round brush. Use Hansa Yellow Medium for the flower centers.
    Step 8 Example
  10. For the leftmost flowers, use a combination of Hansa Yellow Medium and Titanium White for the petals. Use Burnt Umber and Carbon Black for the flower centers.
    Step 9 Example
  11. Paint in the leaves and stems with a combination of Green Gold and Cobalt Turquoise Hue. (Each stem should be a slightly different mix of green to create variety.)
  12. Use Liquid Glass to add raindrops onto the background at the same angle as the colored streaks in the background.
  13. Use a Silhouette electronic cutting machine to cut the word "Bloom" (as desired) from black cardstock in the desired font. Use Matte Medium to apply the cardstock onto the lower left-hand corner of the canvas.
  14. Coat the entire canvas with Gloss Varnish.
