Paint Supplies Travel Case Makeover
Posted by DecoArt on Mar 11th 2016
Have art supplies, will travel, in this case with a faux leather look created by DecoArt Media®.
SUPPLIES
- water container
- palette or plastic plate
- paper towels
- 1" flat brush
- small spray bottle of water
- brayer
- map
- newspaper
- cardboard box
INSTRUCTIONS
- Wrinkle up the newsprint, packing paper, or tissue paper and flatten it out again. Cover the box with Americana Paper Decou-Page and adhere the paper down. (Don't worry if it overlaps or if paper matches.) Use the brayer to push out any bubbles.
- Add streaks of Burnt Umber, Raw Sienna, and Raw Umber Antiquing Cream. (It doesn't have to blend or be perfect; this is just to add color.) Spread with a paintbrush, working in small sections at a time and quickly, to allow for the next step.
- Before the paint dries, mist it with some water. If needed, use a paintbrush, but don't blend everything together. (This will give the piece character and add a variation in color like worn leather.) Allow to dry and move onto the next section until you have covered the entire box. Let dry.
- Once it is completely dry, add a layer of Clear Crackle Glaze over the entire surface with a paintbrush and set it aside to dry. (Depending on the humidity and size of the box, it may need to dry overnight.) Do not use a heat gun or hairdryer to speed up the process.
- Once dry, add a map to the inside of the box. (This is torn into smaller sections to make it easier to work with). Cover the inside with Paper Decou-Page and keep overlapping pieces of the torn map until the areas are completely covered. Allow to dry before adding any supplies.
