INSTRUCTIONS
NOTES:
Let dry completely between painting steps.
- Condition the white Sculpey clay and roll it out using a clay conditioning machine, rolling pin, or acrylic rod.
- Place the clay on a flat work surface and stamp it with a decorative rubber stamp. (If you think clay is sticky, sprinkle it first with some cornstarch.)
- Cut random-sized strips in the clay with a craft knife. Place on a craft-only baking sheet. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for pearl Sculpey clay. Use an alphabet stamp to stamp inspirational words of your choice into the clay. Use a craft knife to cut clay into strips.
- Bake the clay strips in the oven, following the manufacturer's instructions. Let the clay pieces cool (10-12 minutes).
- Once the tiles are cooled, use a 3/4" flat brush to basecoat white clay pieces Desert Turquoise, Indian Turquoise, Sour Apple, and Burnt Orange. Set them aside to dry.
- Use the 3/4" flat brush to coat the entire mosaic tray with Burnt Umber. As the tray is drying, wash the brush with soap and water. After the mosaic tray is dry (15-20 minutes), lightly sand and wipe it off with a clean cloth.
- Using the 3/4" flat brush, basecoat the outside walls of the mosaic tray with Americana Matte Decou-Page. Rinse brush.
- Use the 3/4" flat brush to coat each white clay piece with Burnt Umber. Wipe off the majority of the paint, leaving Burnt Umber in the crevices to create a worn, distressed look.
- Repeat step 8 on the pearl clay tiles with stamped words. Allow all clay tile pieces to dry.
- Adhere each clay tile to the tray with a dollop of adhesive.
- After the paint is completely dry, use a 3/4" flat brush to apply two coats of Decou-Page to seal the mosaic tray, allowing to dry between coats.
- Use the 3/4" flat brush to paint entire outside of the crate Burnt Orange and the inside, Indian Turquoise.
- Use a sea sponge dipped half in Burnt Orange and half in Burnt Umber and pounce all over Burnt Orange areas.
- Repeat on the inside of the crate, using Indian Turquoise and Burnt Umber.
- Use hot glue to attach the tray to the crate.
