  • 3/4" oval paintbrush
  • small oval paintbrush


  1. Gather the wooden materials. Sand lightly.

  2. Paint Snow White over all the wooden surfaces with a large oval brush. Let dry completely. Sand lightly and wipe away dust.

  3. Paint the board and bottoms of the wooden pegs with Forest Green. Allow to dry and add a second coat. Let dry completely.

  4. With a smaller oval paintbrush, paint four of the "billiard balls" (heads of the peg people): one with Lamp Black; one with True Red; one with Bright Orange; and one with Bright Blue. (Leave a Snow White circle at the top.) Allow to dry and paint a second coat. When completely dry, paint the Snow White areas with Light Buttermilk with two coats of paint. (One ball will be solid Light Buttermilk.) Allow to dry.

  5. Using a liner brush, touch up any edges to make clean lines. (Clean the brush in between colors.) Using the same liner brush, paint the numbers 2, 3, 4, and 8 onto the circles with Lamp Black.

  6. For the remaining four balls, paint color bands with an open circle at the top of each using True Red, Lavender, Bright Yellow, and Traditional Burnt Sienna. Paint the Snow White areas with Light Buttermilk. Allow to dry and apply second coats of paint as needed. Let dry completely.

  7. Paint the numbers 12, 13, 14, and 15 with Lamp Black onto the circles. Allow to dry.

  8. For the tic-tac-toe board, mask off two evenly-spaced lines with painter's tape and paint the spaces in between with Gloss Varnish.

  9. Remove the tape and allow to dry completely.

  10. Mask off two evenly spaced lines in opposite directions and paint the spaces with Gloss Varnish. (See photo.) Remove the tape. Paint the edges with Gloss Varnish and allow to dry completely.

  11. Paint the billiard ball shapes with Gloss Varnish, leaving the green bottoms matte.

  12. Allow to dry and enjoy a fun billiard-themed game of tic-tac-toe with Dad.
