Painted Best Friend Scrapbook Page

Create this special scrapbook page for your BFF with DecoArt Media® and your favorite embellishments.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • paper towels
    • tracing paper
    • transfer paper
    • scissors
    • pencil
    • 3/4" flat brush
    • #1 liner brush
    • cosmetic sponge
    • photo of your choice
    • low-temp glue gun and glue stick
    • #1 round brush
    • assorted scrapbook paper
    • printed images
    • craft paper
    • printed lettering
    • cling stamp
    • laser jet printer
    • wooden laser cut compass

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Choose scrapbook paper for the background. I am using brown craft paper and an embellishment from Tando Creative (http://www.tando-creative.co.uk/catalog/.)

    3. Cut out a strip of the wood grain paper from the Americana Decou-Page Arrows Paper.

    5. Use a 3/4" flat brush to mix (1) part Phthalo Turquoise with a small amount of Medium Grey Value 6, then water it down into a wash. Use the 3/4" flat brush to apply the wash over the paper to tint it. Rinse brush. Set the painted Decou-Page Paper aside.

    7. Print off the outlines of state or states of your choice from a computer. Use a pencil or pen and the tracing and transfer papers to trace and transfer the state outlines to scrapbook paper of your choice. Cut out with scissors.

    9. Use a pencil or pen to trace and transfer the state patterns of choice to scrapbook paper of choice and cut out with scissors.

    11. Trace and transfer the leaf pattern randomly on the page. Use a #1 round brush and Titanium White to basecoat the leaves and add random swirls to give the idea that they are blowing. Use the same dirty brush to add a small amount of Phthalo Turquoise with the Titanium White to make a whirlwind. Save mix for next step.

    13. Use the same dirty brush and the mix from step 6 to paint the "N", "E", "S", and "W" on the compass. Rinse brush. Use the same brush with Phthalo Turquoise to paint the ring on the compass. Rinse brush. Use the same brush to mix (1) part Green Gold with (1) part Titanium White. Use the mix to fill in the middle of the compass. Rinse brush.

    15. Print out, in reverse, words or your favorite quote. Use scissors to cut as close to the quote or words as you can.

    17. Use a 3/4" flat brush to brush Americana Decou-Page Photo Transfer Medium on the background paper and on the face of the printed quote. Let air-dry and apply another coat to both. Immediately place the printed paper face down and push on firmly so there are no wrinkles or bubbles. Rinse brush. Follow the Photo Transfer Medium label instructions for dry times.

    19. Tear the painted wood grain Decou-Page Paper and two other pieces of scrapbook paper to go behind photos.

    21. Use the 3/4" flat brush and Americana Matte Decou-Page to apply the three papers down overlapping. Brush more Decou-Page on top to seal.

    23. Print photos of choice in color or black and white on a laser jet printer. Cut out with scissors. Use a 3/4" flat brush and Decou-Page to adhere the photos onto the page where you want.

    25. Use the same brush and Decou-Page to adhere the states on where you want. Rinse brush.

    27. Use a #1 round brush to fill in the green leaves with Green Gold; add a small amount of Burnt Umber to shade half of the leaves. (Refer to photo for placement.) Rinse brush. Use the same brush to paint orange leaves with Vermilion; add a small amount of Burnt Umber to shade half. (Refer to photo for placement.) Rinse brush.
    28. Use the #1 round brush to mix (2) parts Titanium White, (1) part Titan Buff, and a very small amount of Burnt Umber. Use the mix to fill in the brown leaves. (Refer to photo for placement.) Use the same brush to add more Burnt Umber to the previous mix; use new mix to shade half of the brown leaves. Rinse brush.

    30. Print off your choice of feather images. Use the #1 round brush and load separately with Phthalo Turquoise, Vermilion, Medium Grey 6, Raw Sienna, and Green Gold. Water down the colors and use to paint, shade, and highlight the feathers. Rinse brush between colors and at the end. Cut out feathers with scissors.

    32. Use the 3/4" flat brush and Decou-Page to adhere all the feathers randomly. Rinse brush. Use the #1 round brush and Titan Buff to paint the stems on all the leaves and feathers. Rinse brush.

    34. Once photo image transfer has dried, wet with water using any brush or your hand. Let sit for 1-2 minutes to soften. Rub in circular motions to remove the paper and leave the quote. Repeat as needed. Use the 3/4" flat brush to apply Decou-Page Photo Transfer Medium on top to seal. Rinse brush.

    36. Use the #1 round brush and Green Gold to paint a border around the photo. Rinse brush and repeat on other photos using Vermilion and Medium Grey Value 6. Rinse brush before switching colors.

    38. Use a hot glue gun and glue sticks to adhere the compass to the whirlwind.

    40. Use a cosmetic sponge to apply Phthalo Turquoise to apply to a stamp of choice; press around the quote.

    42. Once you're happy with the page, leave it to dry. Once dry, flatten and put in your scrapbook.
