This way to the beach (even if you're miles inland) with Americana® Acrylics and basic wooden slats.
SUPPLIES
- water container
- palette or plastic plate
- paper towels
- tracing paper
- liner brush
- #12 flat brush
- hand-sander or sandpaper
- stylus or ballpoint pen
- four 7" x 3" wooden slats
INSTRUCTIONS
NOTES:
Let dry completely between painting steps.
- Basecoat the wooden slats Cool White with the #12 flat brush.
- Paint each slat with a different color (Flesh Tone, Spa Blue, Mint Julep Green, or Buttermilk) using the #12 flat brush.
- Print out, trace with tracing paper, and transfer pattern for words "beach", "surf", "relax", and "sand" onto wooden slats. (Or use computer fonts.)
- Place each word onto a slat and trace words using a ballpoint pen or stylus, pressing firmly to create indents in the wooden slat underneath.
- Use Cool White to paint words with the liner brush.
- Dip the #12 flat brush into Cool White and wipe off excess paint onto a paper towel. Lightly paint Cool White streaks across the surface of the slat to create dry-brushed look.
- With a hand-sander or sandpaper, lightly sand the edges and across the top of slats to create a weathered look.
- Spray signs with Americana Matte Spray Finish.
