"Be Mine" Glitter Sign with Heart

  • palette or plastic plate
  • paper towels
  • sandpaper
  • 2" flat brush
  • #5 round brush
  • cosmetic sponge
  • hammer
  • vinyl
  • saw-tooth picture hanger
  • Silhouette electronic cutting machine (Silhouette America)
  • twine
  • nails (small; to outline heart)
  • medium density fiberboard (MDF)


NOTE: Let dry completely between painting steps.

  1. Lightly sand the MDF to remove any blemishes.
  2. Paint the sides and top of the MDF board using Poodleskirt Pink. If needed, apply another coat once the first has dried.

  3. Cut out the provided stencils using the Silhouette electronic cutting machine and vinyl.
  4. Apply the vinyl stencil for "mine" in the lower half of the board.

  5. Paint "mine" using Glorious Gold with a cosmetic sponge.

  6. Remove the stencil and let dry.

  7. Apply the stencil for "be" above "mine", aligning the "b" and "m".

  8. Paint "be" using Bubblegum Pink.
    Step 7 Example
  9. Remove the stencil and let dry.

  10. Apply the vinyl heart.

  11. Begin nailing nails down around the heart, making sure to space evenly. (These are spaced about 1/3" from each other.)

  12. Continue until you have gone around the entire heart. Remove the vinyl heart.

  13. Tie twine around the nail at the top middle of the heart. Face the end of the string inward.

  14. Wrap the string around each nail, going back and forth at random. Continue until you get the look you want.

  15. Finish the heart by going on the outside of each nail and making a loop around each nail head to create a border around the heart.

  16. Tie off the end of the string using another string in the middle of the heart. Tuck the loose string end underneath the other strings.

  17. Hand-paint "be" using Sparkling Pink. Apply a generous amount to the brush and spread the Sparkling Pink until the desired glitter distribution is achieved.

  18. Hand-paint "mine" using Gold. Let dry completely.

  19. To hang, attach a saw-tooth hanger on the top of the back.
