  • Relic (ADC28)
  • Serene (ADC18)
  • Vintage (ADC17)

Americana Decor® Stencils

  • Brocade Motif (12" x 12") (ADS01)

Other supplies

  • water container
  • palette or plastic plate
  • paper towels
  • sandpaper
  • painter's tape
  • 2" chip brush
  • 5/8" stencil brush (Americana Stencil Brushes - DABK20)
  • petroleum jelly
  • wooden headboard (flea market find)

NOTE: Let dry completely between painting steps.

  1. Using 2" chip brush, basecoat entire headboard Vintage.
  2. With finger, spread petroleum jelly in areas you’d like base color (Vintage) to show through.
  3. Using 2" chip brush, coat entire headboard with Serene.
  4. Using sandpaper, distress areas where you placed petroleum jelly. (It will appear darker in these areas.)
  5. Place and center stencil; tape into place with painter's tape; and lightly dab on Relic with stencil brush. When finished, remove stencil.
  6. Lightly sand over stenciled design.
  7. Seal with your choice of either a Americana® Decor™ Crème Wax or a Americana® Decor™ Varnish.

Remove excess paint from stencil brush before dabbing on stencil design.

When painting on Serene (over Vintage), clean brush half way through to avoid spreading petroleum jelly to other areas.
