- TEACUP: Paint the background, Sweet Pea; the cup and plate, Blue Bahama; the inside of the cup, polka dots, and plate rim, Petunia Purple. Outline in Wrought Iron Black.
- HAT: Paint the background, Fuchsia; the hat, Sweet Pea; the ribbon and underneath, Mistletoe Green; the paper, Deep Buttercup. Outline in Wrought Iron Black.
- DOOR: Paint the door, Sprout Green; over the door, Desert Turquoise; hinges, nose, and hair, Deep Buttercup; remainder of the face, Splendid Gold; eyes, Fiesta Yellow; and handle, Holly Berry Red. Outline in Wrought Iron Black.

- Use a #6 shader brush to paint the front side of the birdhouse, Desert Turquoise; base, Holly Berry Red; roof and back side, Blue Bahama; and perch, Fiesta Yellow.
- Tear the pages from the board book carefully, separating the pictures from the cardboard backing. Use scissors to cut each page to fit the birdhouse sides.
- Working one side at a time, use a #6 shader brush to apply Americana Matte Decou-Page. Dip the paper image into water. Position and smooth it out with fingers or a brush. Apply more Decou-Page over the image, smoothing it from center to edges. Repeat on all four birdhouse sides.
- Position the book cover on the roof and secure with hot glue.
- Cut hemp cord into desired lengths. Tie the four squares to equal lengths of hemp cord and the three keys to uneven ones.
- Attach one screw eye in each corner of the birdhouse bottom and three in the center.
- Tie the squares to the corner screw eyes and the word keys to the center screw eyes.
