Build shelves with provided instructions or purchase wooden floating shelves and clean thoroughly. Be certain the shelves do not have any rough edges; sand if needed.
Using a 2" chip brush, paint all surfaces in Relic.
Mix Slate Grey with some water to form a very thin wash. Brush onto the shelf surface and let sit for a few seconds. Using a circular motion, remove the moisture from the paint using a paper towel.
Using a circular motion, evenly apply Shimmering Silver with a foam brush.
Using a dry-brush technique, apply a small amount of "rust" by first applying Burnt Sienna and then Burnt Umber.
Calm the rust tones with a faint layer of Shimmering Silver over the vivid rust spots using the same technique with a foam brush.
Make a wash using Relic. Dip the foam brush into it and wring out most of the moisture. Paint on a small amount in a circular motion. Quickly brush off the excess moisture with a paper towel.
Go back around the edges and accentuate the "rust" by adding a little bit of Burnt Sienna and Burnt Umber. (Use a dry-brush technique.)
Measure and hang the shelves using a level, pencil, tape measure, and drill gun. (This is according to the provided shelf construction plans. If using purchased shelves, hang according to packaging instructions.)
Position each shelf onto the wall frames. Insert screws into the predrilled holes on the top of each shelf.
Using screws and the predrilled holes, attach the bottom plywood covers.
