Angel on High

Tis the season for song and frolic! My angel started singing “Angels We Have Heard on High” in my head, so I knew I wanted to take her from my imagination to the canvas. Blues and glitter combine in my sparkly rendition.

Items needed :

  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - Cobalt Turquoise Hue
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - Ultramarine Blue

  • Americana Premium Acrylics - Titanium White

  • Americana Decou-Page (Glue-Sealer-Finish) 8oz - Americana Decou-Page Matte
  • Glamour Dust 2oz - Glamour Dust Crystal
  • Andy Skinner Stencils 12x3 - Shedded
  • Americana Decor Creme Wax 8oz - Golden Brown
  • Americana Decou-Page Papers - Metallic Type
  • 8 x 10 canvas panel
  • Music Paper
  • Chipboard Wings
  • Cardboard
  • Brushes
  • Palette Knife
  • Black Waterproof Pen
  • Gold Waterproof Pen
  • Pencil
  • Sponge
  • Paper Towels
  • Baby Wipes
  • Scissors
  • Foam Tape
  • Heat Tool

Instructions :

Sketch angel image onto cardboard. Cut out. (Note: wings are purchased chipboard)

Collage patterned papers onto canvas and the angel’s body with Decou-Page.

Use a palette knife and dab Modeling Paste onto wings to create texture. Thoroughly dry.

Brush layers of Titan Buff, Cerulean Blue and Translucent White onto the angel’s body. Wipe some off with a baby wipe so patterned paper shows through. Once that layer is dry, use a lacy stencil and a sponge to dab on the layer of Cobalt Teal Hue.

Paint the angel’s face by mixing different shades with the Translucent White and Primary Magenta. Let dry, then draw the face details with a waterproof black pen.

Paint wings with Titanium White. Add Crystal Glitter to wings and angel and let dry.

Use a palette knife and Modeling Paste with the Shedded stencil to randomly add texture to the canvas. Add drops of Cobalt Teal Hue, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Turquoise Hue, and Translucent White in a random pattern over the canvas. Use brush to pull down in streaks. Rub off areas with baby wipe. Then rub in a bit more of the paint using your finger.

Stencil Shimmering Silver onto canvas using a lace stencil.

Use gold waterproof pen and write lyrics to “Angels We Have Heard on High” on the canvas. Add random gold dots onto the canvas.

Have a wonderful holiday season!
