Snowy Trees

Snowy Trees

Create these Snowy Trees with Media Crackle Paste. Inspired by the low sun at this time of year, I wanted to create an ethereal landscape capturing the pale watery colours of a winters sky using DecoArt Media fluid acrylics as subtle colour washes.

Items needed :

  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - Prussian Blue Hue
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - Raw Umber
  • DecoArt Media Mediums and Specialty Products - Crackle Paste - White
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - Primary Yellow
  • 12in by 12in Surface
  • Palette Knife
  • Baby Wipes
  • Paper Towels
  • Assorted Brushes

Instructions :

Apply DecoArt Crackle Paste through a stencil thinner at the top for finer crackles,

and thicker at the bottom for larger cracks.

Allow to dry for about 2 hours, or until the cracks appear fully. When the Crackle Paste is applied thicker it can take slightly longer.

Apply diluted Primary Yellow around the sun.

Apply diluted Prussian Blue at the skyline and diluting further to colour wash to the top and base of the canvas.

Apply diluted Raw Umber across the skyline.

Blot the area around the sun with a baby wipe and remove a circle of paint in the center of the sun.

Remove some of the paint in the foreground with a paper towel to create the snow drifts.

So elegant yet so simple. What a fabulous job of conveying the feeling of a cold winter's day!
