I remember painting with glow paint when I was a kid. It was so exciting to see that initial brightness when the lights went down, but it was always a little disappointing when the glow quickly dimmed. DecoArt has developed a new glowing paint called Americana Glow, now available at Michaels. It’s water-based and permanent! It glows lighter and brighter, and looks amazing when the lights go down! It’s super-simple to do, and you can let it glow and brighten up the night!
Items needed:
- Americana Multi-Surface Satin Acrylics 2oz - Cotton Ball
- Americana Glow in Aqua
- Americana Glow in Orange
- Paintbrush
- Plexiglass
Instructions:
It seemed like the perfect medium to create a DIY glow in the dark sign! You can create a glowing message or art piece which is a fun accent for any room! The vibrancy of the paint is intensified by painting it over white paint, so we used Americana Multi-Surface for proper adhesion. If you want to make your own, you can also use the free printable provided!

To create your own glow in the dark sign, you’ll need two sheets of plexiglass, Paper or a printed message, White Americana Multi-Surface paint, soft liner brushes, clear adhesive wall hangers.
To begin, print out our printable and place it under a sheet of the plexiglass.
With the white Multi-Surface paint, paint over the lettering on the plexiglass.
Once the white paint is dry, use a soft liner brush to paint 2 to 3 coats. The colors will darken as they dry. Use a wet cotton swab to clean up any over-painting right away.
Once the paint is completely dry, place the other plexiglass sheet over the top. Use a little drop of glue along the edge to hold them together if needed.
To hang, use clear adhesive hangers, measuring between so the plexiglass panel slides between.

Once you have it hung, the fun part comes! It’s so much fun to turn out the lights and see it glow! It charges best in UV light to sunlight, but mine was glowing after being under regular room lights.
