Green is such a pretty color to decorate with and shouldn’t just be reserved for spring and summer. When things outside are turning brown, there’s no better time to bring green back into your home.

Some of my favorite varieties of pumpkins are the ones that aren’t even orange or yellow - how about you?

So, this project takes some inexpensive faux pumpkins and gives them a glam jade green makeover using DecoArt Extreme Sheen paint and Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint.

I wanted to find a way to stack my pumpkins up for height on my tablescape so I grabbed a couple of vintage pressed aluminum tier trays (you know, the old 1950s Aluminum by Galistyn). I decided to upcycle them with a little Chalky Finish paint. That way, the metal wouldn’t compete with the shiny green painted pumpkins.

Items needed:

  • DecoArt Extreme Sheen 2oz - Jadeite
  • DecoArt Extreme Sheen 2oz - Emerald
  • DecoArt Extreme Sheen 2oz - Antique Bronze
  • DecoArt Extreme Sheen 2oz - Pearl
  • Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint 8oz - Lace
  • Small pumpkins (faux or real)
  • Metal tray
  • Paintbrushes

First, I gave my aluminum tier trays a few coats of Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint in Lace on the top surface. I didn’t paint the underside since it wouldn’t really show. But, I made sure to paint the bevel edges. Allow to dry.

Then, I painted all of my faux pumpkins with a coat of the same Chalky Finish paint in Lace. This gave me a nice blank canvas for the Extreme Sheen paint, which is slightly transparent.

I used a mix of Emerald, Jadeite and Pearl to give my pumpkins a little shadowy dimension.

Then, I finished them by painting the stems with Extreme Sheen in Antique Bronze.

I love how the Extreme Sheen paint made these pumpkins look so delicate, almost as if they are made of glass!

And, the soft, flat finish of the chalk paint on the tray is a nice contrast. I love how the chalk paint also just softly covered the stamped pattern, leaving the vines and flowers still visible.

Using green in your fall decor will look timeless from September until the end of November.
