I love making and gifting cards, the Gelli Arts® plate allows me to create colourful background papers that are unique to my designs.
Items needed:
- 5x7 Gelli ArtsĀ® Plate
- Brayer
- Sponge
- Stamps, stencils, textures
- White card
- Black card
- Teal card
- 5x7 White card blank
- Die
- Die cutting machine
- Ink
- White embossing powder
- Heat tool
- Black enamel dots
- Tissue tape
- Glue
Instructions:
Step 1: Remove your Gelli® Plate from its protective packaging. Place the plate on a sheet of paper, this helps you align your prints. Using a brayer, coat the plate in a base layer of Americana Premium Acrylics in Primary Yellow and Vermilion, you only need a small amount. These colours will form your dominant colour in your print.

Step 2: Begin layering textures on to your plate. Use things like bubble wrap to the print to lift away areas. Add colours by sponging paint through stencils.

Step 3: Keep adding patterns and textures. Brayer paint on to selected stamps and stamp these on to your plate. Working from light to darker colours helps form your composition. Once you are happy with your design, let the paint dry on the plate.

Step 4: To pull the print from the plate, cover the plate in Titanium White using your brayer. Working quickly, lay your card over the plate. Rub hard all over the card to pick up the white paint along with the dried paint layers. Keeping the card in place, gently lift one corner to check all the paint has lifted from the plate. If some remains, recover and rub again.

Step 5: Create your card layers, mat and layer teal and black card on to a 5” x 7” White Card Blank.

Step 6: Trim your print to fit your card blank, leaving enough of a boarder for your mats and layers to frame.

Step 7: Form your sentiments by die cutting your chosen word from the print panel. Keep all the cuts created. Layer die cuts of the same word, cut from black and teal card, stacked the die cut from the panel on top. On to black card, white heat emboss a word to complete your full sentiment.

Step 8: Stick your print panel to your card black and insert your die cut sentiment stack into the negative created by the die cut. Add your white heat embossed word to complete your sentiment.

Step 9: Add a few black enamel dots around your sentiment to frame and finish your card.
