Today I'm sharing fun "Eat Cake for Breakfast" confetti art using Americana Premium Acrylics, Americana Decou-Page, and DecoArt Glamour Dust Sprinkle-On Glitter. It incorporates bold stripes, polka dot confetti, and vivid colors as the perfect complements to this fun saying.

Items needed:

  • Americana Decou-Page (Glue-Sealer-Finish) 8oz - Americana Decou-Page Gloss
  • Glamour Dust 2oz - Glamour Dust Gold
  • Canvas
  • Cardstock circles in various sizes
  • Cricuit materials or stencil of your choice
  • Painter's tape
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • Small paintbrushes

Step 1: Paint the stripes. To paint the black and white stripes, I used a measuring tape and pencil to measure and mark eight rectangles. Then I added painter's tape to paint the black sections. Carefully remove the tape when you're done painting and let it dry.

Step 2: Create the pink and turquoise confetti circles. While the black paint is drying, start working on the pink and turquoise confetti circles. I made a simple stencil with various sized circles using my cutting machine and a piece of cardstock scrapbook paper.

Then, instead of painting the circles onto the canvas using the stencil, I painted the circles I'd cut out of the canvas and then glued them on to create a crisp, vivid look with a bit more dimension.

I decided on my layout by placing the painted circles all around the canvas until I was happy with the look. Then I glued them on using Americana Decou-Page one by one.

Step 3: Create the gold glitter circles. I used smaller cardstock circle pieces for the gold glitter circles. To make these, I put a thick layer of Decou-Page on each circle and then cover the entire surface with Glamour Dust glitter. You may need to do this step twice once the first coat is dry.

Once you're happy with the glitter, paint a layer of Decou-Page over each circle. This seals the glitter—no glitter mess! (Note: Make sure to use the Gloss Decou-Page, not Matte, for this if you want to keep more sparkle.)

This process might look scary, but don't worry. The Decou-Page dries crystal clear! Here are a few photos to show the drying process:

Step 4: Add the gold glitter circles. Add the gold glitter circles using decoupage. Simply use a small brush to apply Decou-Page to the back of each glitter circle and press onto the canvas. I overlapped the gold circles onto some of the pink and turquoise circles for a layered confetti look.

Step 5: Add "Eat Cake for Breakfast" text. I used my cutting machine to cut the saying "eat cake for breakfast" out of gold adhesive vinyl. Then I used transfer tape to carefully apply it to the canvas.

If you don't have a cutting machine, you can paint this saying on using a stencil and a small brush, or you could cut it out of paper and Decou-Page it onto the canvas.
