Matte Metallic Light Up Trees

During the holidays there is nothing more special than making everything sparkle. Let’s create a bright and festive ambiance in your home with metallic paint. Today I’m sharing how to make shimmery light up trees using metallic paint and fairy lights.
You can make these metallic light up trees as big as you like, it all depends on your space. Put them on your mantle, a sideboard, an open shelf or even as a centerpiece on the table for your holiday meal.
The wood trees are painted with Americana Decor Matte Metallics paint in Champagne. Covered with a layer of metallic shine the glimmer on these trees makes for a truly magical feeling that’s so wonderful especially during the holiday season.
Items Needed:
- Americana Decor Matte Metallics 8 oz - Champagne (ADMMT08-36)
- 3/4 Inch Plywood Pieces
- 1x4 Scarp Wood Board Pieces (about 12 Inches Long)
- Kraft Paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Jig Saw
- Sander
- Drill And Drill Bits
- 1 1/4 Inch Wood Screws
- Paintbrush
- Fairy Lights
- Stable Gun And Staples
Instructions:
Step 1: Cut ¾ inch thick plywood rectangle to approxamately18x15 inches then make a paper template using brown kraft paper. For symmetry, I suggest folding the paper in half lengthwise and then cut out the template.
Step 2: Using the paper template trace the tree shape onto the plywood. Cut out the tree using a jig saw.
Step 3: Determine where you want the light bulbs. Using a drill bit equal to the diameter of the fairy light plastic cover drill holes for the bulbs.
Step 4: Consider priming the wood then paint with two coats of DecoArt Americana Decor Metallic in Champagne Gold.
Step 5: Carefully remove the plastic cover from the fairy lights and save.
Step 6: Attach a 1x4 to the center base of the plywood tree to act as a stand. Then insert the bulb portion of the light from the back side and staple to the back of the tree. Finally, insert the plastic cover from the front for a snug fit.
Be sure to staple the lights in position on the back side and play close attention to your path depending on where the battery pack is located and if you are connected to any other trees.
The lights against the metallic paint make for a glorious, shiny and bright tree display.
Of course, you don’t have to add the fairy lights at all, you could paint the trees metallic and that would still be a very beautiful holiday display that will last well into the winter season.
