DIY Summer Porch Sign

DIY Summer Porch Sign

The summer days are hot and long, but nothing beats sitting on the porch at the end of the day to relax and unwind. I am a big fan of porch sitting and whether we are sitting on our front porch or hanging out in the back it's a cozy place where I can read a book, watch the kids play or enjoy a glass of wine. Since my porch is my happy space I thought it was high time I add a little bit of color and flair to my special space with a DIY Summer Porch Sign.

I made this simple summer porch sign with my favorite DecoArt outdoor paint, so I know it will last year after year. In fact a few years ago I made this DIY Lazy Susan for outdoor summer entertaining and it still looks like it did the first day, even after sitting outside on my patio for almost two years!

On my most recent shopping trip to Michaels I found a large pallet sign on clearance for $5.  It already had a saying printed on it, which I didn't love, but I knew I could sand it off and create my own DIY summer porch sign.

Instruction Image #1

I started by painting the pallet sign with Americana Decor Outdoor Living Morning Glory paint. I painted on two coats and let the board dry.

While the pallet board was drying I used my Cricut to cut out a stencil for my "Life is Better on the Porch" saying. I used regular vinyl and my favorite font Bromello to create this simple template.

Once the sign was dry I placed the vinyl stencil on the painted pallet board. Next, I used Americana Decor Outdoor Living Harvest paint to paint the saying on my sign. Let the paint dry slightly and then carefully remove the vinyl to reveal the design.

After I finished painting the saying I decided that it needed another pop of color so I painted over the yellow word Porch with the Americana Decor Curb Appeal Harbor Blue Paint.  Once the paint was completely dry I sanded the pallet sign to give it a rustic finish.

I hung my new porch sign up with a few of my other favorites, prepared a simple porch picnic, poured a glass of wine and kicked back to relax and enjoy summer living on my porch...because life is definitely better on the porch!
