A friend is retiring from years of teaching French, and I wanted to make a special gift for her to commemorate the many years she dedicated to her students. I knew I wanted a French theme, and Paris just called to me! I’ve been drawn to blues and rusts lately, so of course that’s what I used with this wall hanging. Look closely and you will see french script and words, as well as the flour de lis and Eiffel Tower. Enjoy this little trip to the “blue” side of Paris!

Items needed:

Use a palette knife and Modeling Paste with the stencil to add words to large Etcetera tag.

Add a layer of gesso to tag and let dry. Brush Peacock Teal and Deep Turquoise on tag in a random fashion - don’t cover entire tag. Then, create depth by brushing on the transparent fluid acrylics in Cerulean Blue and Cobalt Turquoise Hue. Edge tag with Prussian Blue Hue.

Randomly brush a bit of Cobalt Teal Hue onto tag. Stamp French script onto tag with Jet Black archival ink.

Spritz Turquoise Shimmer Mist on tag, let dry. Then, highlight the dimensional words with Black Shimmer Metallic Lustre. It got a bit smudgy doing this with my finger, so I tried to clean up the edges using a Q tip. I also smudged a bit randomly on the tag.

I found I could avoid the smudgy edges by fitting the stencil over the word I wanted to work on. I rubbed in some Copper Kettle, then used a cosmetic sponge and with a light touch, dabbed on Quinacridone Gold and Payne's Grey. I also used the stencil and the Quinacridone Gold with the sponge to add more words into the background.

Use stencil, Prussian Blue Hue and sponge to stencil in a few Fleur de Lis.

Die cut the Eiffel Tower and Fleur de Lis using heavy cardboard. Add Texture Sand Paste onto the pieces with a palette knife, and dab on top to create texture. Dry.

To create the rusty look, first spritz with Carbon Black Mister, then brush on Quinacridone Gold. Cover with Ultra Matte Varnish, then highlight with Black Shimmer Metallic Lustre. Attach with foam tape for a dimensional effect. Use a black archival pen and

trace around Paris on the bottom. Attach ring at top, and your project is complete!
