Distressed Wood Plank Pumpkins

I always want to start buying pumpkins to decorate the outside of my house right after Labor Day. Realistically I know they won't last until Thanksgiving, but I just get so excited to get the fall season started! So I'll have to hold off for a bit longer. In the meantime, I'm decorating the outdoors with these Distressed Wood Plank Pumpkins. They will last for years!

Items Needed:

Instructions:

These wood pumpkins from Walnut Hollow vary in size from 14.75" - 11" tall and are made from pine slats. The possibilities for decorating them are endless!

I want my pumpkins to go outside so the Americana Decor Outdoor Living paints are perfect for this project. I also wanted to use some of the Decou-Page papers (Moroccan and Paisley Punch) to add pops of color and patterns to the pumpkins. I matched the Outdoor Living paints to the papers (Lily Pad, Picket Fence, Harvest, Morning Glory, and Adirondack).

Instruction Image #2

Each pumpkin has 3 slats. I painted the outside slats in the main color of the paper that was going on it and the center slat with Picket Fence. Trim the paper to be just slightly larger than the slat that it is going on then use Outdoor Decou-Page to adhere the paper to the center slat.

Once the Decou-Page is dry, use sandpaper along the edges of the slat to lightly tear away the excess paper. Lightly sand the top of the paper to give it a distressed look. Finally, apply a coat of the Outdoor Decou-Page to top of the paper.

Use a second color of the Outdoor Living paint around the edges of all the slats and light streaks on top of the painted slats to add a distressed look. Lightly sand so the color isn't too bold.

These distressed wood slat pumpkins are adding some fun fall flair to my patio! Now if Mother Nature could just get her act together and turn the thermostat down I would be one happy girl.
