In summertime, I love quick, easy, breezy projects. This nautical DIY tote bag is as simple as projects come. A little paint, a little glue, and you're done and off to the pool!

Items needed:

  • Americana Decor Outdoor Living Paint 8oz - Ladybug
  • Woven Tote Bag
  • Anchor Die Cut
  • Paintbrush
  • Sandpaper
  • Wax Paper
  • Glue

Instructions:

Every time I go to Target, I'm drawn in by the siren call of the dollar spot. I always find something I need there -- like this woven tote bag. With its rope handles and blue-and-white pattern, the tote was cute. I knew I could make it even cuter by amping up the nautical style.

I found an anchor die cut at the craft store and grabbed a jar of DecoArt Americana Outdoor Living Paint in Ladybug Red.

(Since there's a chance this tote bag will get wet poolside, I thought it was important to use the weather and water-resistant Outdoor Living Paint.)

I painted the anchor, front and back, with two coats of Outdoor Living paint. To ensure a smooth surface, I sanded between coats with fine sandpaper.

Once the anchor was completely dry, I slid a sheet of wax paper into the flattened tote bag and glued on the anchor.  The wax paper keeps the glue from seeping through and sticking the tote bag to itself. Leave it in the bag until the glue has dried completely.
