Hi! It's Pam today on the DecoArt Media Blog sharing with you a Spring Canvas. 

I love the sentiment... "True chaos comes from the garden of your soul...where wild flowers grow!"

I thought it was perfect for the springtime weather we have been having....on day cold and the next hot...it makes my soul feel that true chaos! 

Items needed:

  • DecoArt Media Mediums and Specialty Products - Gesso - White
  • DecoArt Media Mediums and Specialty Products - Modeling Paste - White
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - Yellow Oxide
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - Yellow Green Light
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - Cobalt Teal Hue
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - Titanium White
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - Pyrrole Red
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - Carbon Black
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - Quinacridone Burnt Orange
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - Viridian Green Hue
  • Americana Decou-Page (Glue-Sealer-Finish) 8oz - Americana Decou-Page Gloss
  • Andy Skinner Stencils 6x6 - Whirlpool
  • Andy Skinner Stencils 12x3 - Shedded
  • Gypsy Soul Lasercuts: Birds on Branch Assortment, Fanciful Elements, Stackable Label Shapes
  • Assorted Brushes
  • .05 Micron Pen
  • Glue
  • 8" by 8" Canvas

Instructions:

I began my 8" x 8" canvas a good coating of White Gesso. Allow to dry.

Paint a wash of Yellow Oxide over canvas. Allow to dry.

Tear Vintage Silhouette Decou-Page Paper. Apply Decou-Page to the back of torn paper with paint brush. Place on canvas. Allow to dry.

Paint a wash of Yellow Green Light over top of prepared canvas. Allow to dry.

Dry brush Colbalt Teal Hue to prepared canvas. Allow to dry.

Stipple Titanium White with stencil brush. Allow to dry.

Mix Modeling Paste with Pyrrole Red.

Lay Whirlpool Stencil on top of prepared canvas. Add Titanium White Paint to leftover modeling paste mix. (This will lighten it up a shade) Apply mix to top of stencil with palette knife. Allow to dry.

Lay Shedded Stencil to prepared canvas. Repeat with modeling paste mix and palette knife. Allow to dry.

Repeat with Shedded Stencil using Modeling Paste and palette knife. Allow to dry.

Mix Pyrrole Red and White paint to achieve a light pink hue. Stipple with stencil brush over canvas. Allow to dry.

Spatter with Carbon Black and old toothbrush. Allow to dry.

Using a stylus...create dots using Yellow Oxide. Allow to dry.

Paint chipboard pieces with Yellow Green Light, Pyrrole Red, Raw Umber.  Allow to dry.

Shade and highlight chipboard with Diarylide Yellow, Viridian, Quinacridone Burnt Orange. Dot birds eye with Carbon Black. Allow to dry.

Do line work on chipboard leaf using Micron Pen.  Adhere to canvas.

Do line work to chipboard with Micron Pen. Adhere to canvas.

Paint frame first with Titanium White. (Allowing to dry between each coat.)
Repeat with Yellow Oxide...Next with Yellow Green Light... Last with Colbalt Teal Hue. Spatter with Carbon Black and old tooth brush.

Adhere frame to canvas.  Paint "Chaos" to frame with Carbon Black using round brush. 
Paint sentiment on canvas with Carbon Black using round brush. Allow to dry.

Add line work to "Chaos" frame with pen.

Apologies for being so late with my comment but I wanted to spend time looking at your gorgeous project Pam. I love the green base and the red swirls look amazing against the white. They really 'pop' but don't distract from the wonderful sentiment and that gorgeous red bird! Love this! Anne xx
