Painted Concrete Planters

Painted Concrete Planters

If there is one thing I love, it’s color.  Now that it’s spring and the weather is nice, I’ve moved outside to add some fun to our porch by updating my concrete planter.  I use this planter every year to grow my favorite herbs: cilantro, rosemary and oregano. This year, it was feeling a bit boring, so I decided to update it with DecoArt Porch Paint Outdoor paint!

Items Needed:

  • Brushes

Instructions:

Last year, I gilded some of the details of this concrete planter, so when I went to paint my updates, I was thrilled at how the Glorious Gold was a perfect match! It literally looks exactly like the gold leaf. I wanted to have a very relaxed, free-hand design, so I chose to paint triangles without using tape or making any marks.

I started by adding the Gold Leaf to the corners to tie in the gold from the gilding with the design that I was creating.

Then, I used a small paintbrush and started on one side free-handing my triangles.

I continued around my planter alternating colors.  Aren’t they so bright and happy?

Once I completed one coat all the way around the planter, I went back to do some minor touch ups.

I just love the Patio Paint Outdoor.  It is very smooth and creamy, and it went on the concrete like a dream.  Now, instead of a stodgy, traditional concrete planter, I have a fun and whimsical pop of color for my aromatic herb garden!
