Our mom owns a cedar chest that’s been sitting in front of her stairs forever, catching blankets, backpacks, hats or other items grandkids kick off and toss on it. We knew it needed a few coats of chalky finish to spruce it up so when she and our dad went on a cruise earlier this month, we made it over and she was thrilled with how the chalky finish brightens up the space! It’s amazing how a few coats of paint (and new hardware) changed the whole look of this chest.

Items needed:

  • Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint 16oz - Everlasting
  • Americana Decor Stain Blocker 8oz - Stain Blocker
  • Paint brush
  • Water basin

Instructions:

Without priming or sanding, we brushed on two coats of Everlasting chalky finish.

It covered very nicely but there were a few stubborn streaks so we used one light coat of stain blocker/sealer then one more coat of chalky finish. We updated the hardware and viola! A PERFECT finish.

We are usually huge fans of distressing, especially with how easy it is with chalky finish, but we are loving how crisp the paint looks with the stained top!

This was such an easy transformation that changes the whole look of this chest. Hope you love it as much as our mom does!
