I recently gave my kitchen a much needed makeover with paint.  Now that most of all the hard work is done I get to add all the fun things.  This Chalkboard Mason Jar Kitchen Storage is one of my favorite little projects so far.  I needed something small to help keep things organized for our hot beverages each day, and I wanted something pretty.  These jars are perfect.

Items needed:

  • Americana Acrylics 2oz - Sea Glass
  • Americana Gloss Enamels Glass Chalkboard Paint 2oz - Black
  • Mason Jars
  • Foam Pouncer / Dobber Brush
  • Vinyl Stencil
  • Gray Spray Paint Primer (optional)

Start by making sure your jars are clean and dry.  Using a small amount of rubbing alcohol to clean your jars is helpful to ensure the paint sticks properly.

I gave my lids a quick coat of spray primer, this helped the painting process go much quicker.  I gave my lids two coats of the Americana acrylic in Sea Glass.  It's such a beautiful color.  Be sure to let the first coat dry completely before applying the second coat.

Once the second coat was dry I actually glued my mason jar lid pieces together with some E6000, this is not necessary - I just wanted to open my jars quickly and easily each time.

Once everything is dry I gave each lid a quick spray of a matte spray sealer to ensure the paint won't chip.

To create the chalkboard label I used a vinyl stencil that I cut with my Silhouette machine in the shape of an oval. You can use a stencil or painters tape to create any shape label you want.  Then just brush or dab on your Americana glass chalkboard paint, letting each coat dry before applying the next.  I only needed two coats of this as well.  Once completely dry you will need to follow the glass chalkboard paint instructions to bake your jars.  Then when the paint is set properly you can draw or write anything you want on your chalkboard labels either using a piece of chalk or chalkboard marker.

Love all gel plates and your colours 😍 My favourite colour now is Cobalt Teal Hue. There is teal time in my art going now 😀

Sue Ossenberg I have an 8x10" Gelli plate & would just love to have a larger one to cover more surface area. I have no small shapes, but there are SO many things that can be done with them. I love that they stretch my creative muscles, make it fun and easy to try new things and often yield amazing, unexpected results. I have used many of the Deco Arts paints in my gelli printing . . . I especially love experimenting with the specialty paints on my plate for amazing results!

I love to use self made plates with Gelli plate and Americana acrylics. I have added different textures to my plates using yarn for example. Also cardboard, diecuts and canvas works well. Only your creativity is the limit.

I am seriously addicted to Gelli art printing and I would love to try these paints. I've used other DecoArt paints in the past and have always been very happy with them.

I love the Gelli plate for so many reasons! Lately I've been using the 6x6 like a stamp I mixed media projects. I paint a variety of similar colors on the plate then use a skewer to draw designs in the paint. Then I stamp the plate on my piece.

After painting up a colourful pile of gelli plate papers I like to rip and cut up the papers for an exciting collage. There is no other way to create unique collage without a gelli print.

My go to Gelli plate is the 8x10..it slips into my art bag easily with my papers, mark making tools, brayer and of course Americana Premium Paints. Sea Breeze is my color!!! Off for a morning of Plein Air printing on a covered picnic table! Perfect...

Oh wow! I have wanted a Gelli Plate for *so* long! I love Americana Acrylics, especially the smooth thickness of the gesso, and my favourite of all the projects are the “Summer Fun Themed Prints.” I would just adore winning this! I look forward to seeing all the collaborations!

I'm a huge fan of DecoArt. My current stash includes Americana, fluid acrylics, a couple of the misters, some of the mediums. I would love to expand that with the gelli plate and the small plates!
