I recently gave my kitchen a much needed makeover with paint.  Now that most of all the hard work is done I get to add all the fun things.  This Chalkboard Mason Jar Kitchen Storage is one of my favorite little projects so far.  I needed something small to help keep things organized for our hot beverages each day, and I wanted something pretty.  These jars are perfect.

Items Needed:

• Mason Jars
• Foam Pouncer / Dobber Brush
• Vinyl Stencil
• Gray Spray Paint Primer (optional)

Instructions:

Start by making sure your jars are clean and dry.  Using a small amount of rubbing alcohol to clean your jars is helpful to ensure the paint sticks properly.

I gave my lids a quick coat of spray primer, this helped the painting process go much quicker.  I gave my lids two coats of the Americana acrylic in Sea Glass.  It's such a beautiful color.  Be sure to let the first coat dry completely before applying the second coat.

Once the second coat was dry I actually glued my mason jar lid pieces together with some E6000, this is not necessary - I just wanted to open my jars quickly and easily each time.

Once everything is dry I gave each lid a quick spray of a matte spray sealer to ensure the paint won't chip.

To create the chalkboard label I used a vinyl stencil that I cut with my Silhouette machine in the shape of an oval. You can use a stencil or painters tape to create any shape label you want.  Then just brush or dab on your Americana glass chalkboard paint, letting each coat dry before applying the next.  I only needed two coats of this as well.  Once completely dry you will need to follow the glass chalkboard paint instructions to bake your jars.  Then when the paint is set properly you can draw or write anything you want on your chalkboard labels either using a piece of chalk or chalkboard marker.
