Have you seen those awesome hand-painted jean jackets going around? Well, they are not as complex as you might think! I’m going to show you how to do a simple DIY Jean Jacket that will make your style stand out in the crowd!

Choosing the right paint is essential and fabric paint can be really tricky. I always use my DecoArt SoSoft Fabric Paint because it is the BEST fabric paint on the market. It’s incredibly soft and easy to use, plus it’s permanent without any heat setting! This paint will not crack or peel and it lasts for wash after wash.

Items needed:

  • SoSoft Fabric Acrylics 1oz - Dark Rose
  • SoSoft Fabric Acrylics 1oz - Green Apple
  • SoSoft Fabric Glitters 2 oz. - Hologram
  • SoSoft Fabric Acrylics 1oz - Neon Blue
  • Paintbrush
  • Chalk pencil
  • Water

Instructions:

First, you’ll want to select the colors and design you want to use. I wanted some simple words and a positive message so I chose “Stay Kind”. The great thing about these paints is they come in SO many colors and varieties. You can even get them in glitter paint, neon, and glow in the dark!

To get the design just where you want it, you can use a chalk pencil on the fabric to outline your work. I find the chalk pencil is perfect because you can rub it into the fabric if you mess up and just start again!

Once you have your design just right, you can start filling it in with your SoSoft Fabric Paint. It’s so easy to use and the opacity makes it so simple! You can usually get away with just one coat and blending is a breeze!

For the best blending results, I try and lay down the base colors and then get a clean brush and dip it in just a little water. Use that to go into the transition area and lightly blend them together.

Sparkle is always a great addition in my opinion so I had to add some! The SoSoft Glitter Fabric Paint in Hologram is absolutely stunning in person! The holographic shine just adds so much flare to the jacket. It’s also much easier to use than you would think even though the glitter is really chunky. It stays in place effortlessly and doesn’t even come off in the washing machine!

Let the paint dry for 24-48 hours before you wash and then you’re all set to wear your new and improved DIY Jean Jacket! You’ll stun everyone in a custom piece you made yourself!
