May Flowers

May Flowers

Posted by DecoArt on May 22nd 2019

This has been my first spring living in Texas, and let me tell you - It is gorgeous. There are wildflowers everywhere you look, even driving down the highway or going to the grocery store. The rolling pastures are full of both bluebonnets and inspiration. I have always enjoyed using botanical elements in my art, and find my artwork changing and evolving with the seasons. This piece reminded me of the saying “April showers bring May flowers," with the dark drips coming from the “sky," and the flower focal image. I’ll be the first to tell you that I did not start with that idea. I started with a background of ripped paper and gesso, and built layers from there, generally using things that are close by. By the time I felt like it was done, I was as surprised as anyone else by where the journey ended. I hope you enjoy this process and feel inspired!
