Americana on Canvas: Stenciled

Stencils are the perfect way to add decorative elements to a canvas. If you aren't confident in your painting or drawing abilities, stencils make it as easy as filling in a coloring book. These designs show you how to use the whole stencil as a front-and-center design element and how to use just part of a stencil to add texture and visual interest.

Just pick up some of our high-quality  Americana Acrylics and a canvas from your local store to get started. Also, make sure you check out our extensive collection of stencil designs. You are certain to find one that will coordinate with your decor! Share how you use our stencils for a chance to be featured using #decoartprojects.

This piece was inspired by a visit to the Country Living Fair and all the doilies and country items I saw there. Colors selected were also seen frequently around the fair. Colors used: Coral Blush, Marigold, Sea Breeze, Snow White, and Zinc.

I wanted to create a very simple abstract piece with a lot of texture. I painted the entire canvas in Sea Glass; once it was dried, I quickly painted the top half of the canvas in Emperor's Gold. Then I randomly stenciled the bottom half. I mixed the crushed glass with Texture Glass and then randomly applied it to the canvas for added texture.

I love everything boho and this time I tried to mix it with contemporary feel. Cropping the Mandala gave it a more modern look and the palette is nice for a teens room. I used Bubblegum Pink, French Grey Blue, Coral Blush, Boysenberry Pink, and Yellow Ochre.

For this piece, I was channeling a back to school, locker or dorm room vibes. Tie dye seems to always be popular with teens and tweens and I wanted to incorporate a relevant stencil. Of course I went with a really bright palette since kids tend to like really bright colors and neons. Colors used: Dioxazine Purple, Electric Blue, Fiery Red, Lamp Black, Scorching Yellow, Sizzling Pink, Snow White, Thermal Green, and Torrid Orange.

It seems that sugar skulls are here to stay! I love how you can  get away with using just about any color on them! I decided to stay more traditional with more of a primary palette on this piece. I used Bright Green, Primary Red, Bright Orange, Bright Yellow, Sea Breeze, and Lamp Ebony Black.
