INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: Let dry completely between painting steps.

  1. Clean the cooler to make sure there is no dust.
  2. Tear painter's tape to create the rays coming from the bottom center.
  3. Use the 3/4" flat brush to mix (1) part Blue Bird with (1) part Night Sky. Use the mix to paint in all the open areas between the tape. Rinse brush; quickly remove tape. (Refer to tips at bottom.) Save the mix for future steps.
  4. Use the USA map pattern to outline the outer shape using a pen and grey transfer paper.
  5. Use a #6 flat brush and the mix from step 3 to fill in the United States. Rinse brush. Let dry completely.
  6. Use the same United States pattern to transfer all the words using a pen and white transfer paper. Use a #1 round brush and Silver (Metallic) to fill in the lettering. Rinse brush.
  7. Use the grey transfer paper to trace and transfer the words "land of the FREE because of the Brave" to the front of the cooler using a pen.
  8. Use the #1 round brush and Cotton Ball to paint the word "free", avoiding the stars, and then the word "Brave". Rinse brush.
  9. Use the #1 round brush and Muted Gold to paint on the words "land of the" and "because of". Rinse brush.
  10. Use the same brush and Cotton Ball to add the last word "the" above "Brave". Rinse brush.
  11. Use a 3/4" flat brush and the mix from step 3 to paint the entire side except for the handle. Rinse brush. Let dry completely. Tear some painter's tape to make stripes around the handle(s).
  12. Use the 3/4" flat brush and Cotton Ball to paint the stripes. Rinse brush.
  13. Use a pen to trace and transfer the fireworks, bottle rockets, and words "sparks will fly". Use the #1 round brush and Silver (Metallic) to basecoat the fireworks. Rinse brush.
  14. Use the #1 round brush and Blue Bird to add blue lights to two of the fireworks and part of the bottle rockets. Rinse brush.
  15. Use the same brush and True Blue to add highlights to the two Blue Bird fireworks. Rinse brush.
  16. Use the same brush and Red Hot to add details to the one firework and to parts of the bottle rockets. Rinse brush.
  17. Use the same brush and Dark Scarlet to highlight the Red Hot firework. Rinse brush.
  18. Use the 3/4" flat brush and Muted Gold to paint the end of the handle(s). Rinse brush. Use the #1 round brush and Muted Gold to paint on the words "Let sparks fly". Rinse brush.
  19. Once the paint has cured for seven days, paint on the cooler is completely permanent for any location or weather condition.

HELPFUL HINTS

If you apply more than one coat where the paint touches the painter's tape, try to remove the tape carefully by pulling it away from the paint. If it starts to lift the paint, use a craft knife to follow the lines of the tape.
