Make this highly-textured mask using DecoArt Media® Fluid Acrylics and White Modeling Paste.
SUPPLIES
- water container
- palette or plastic plate
- paper towels
- palette knife
- paintbrushes
- Styrofoam mask
INSTRUCTIONS
- Using Coral, Frosted Plum, Light Lime, and Light Orchid, paint the entire surface of the mask in large, painterly strokes and allow to dry.
- Paint the entire mask in One Step Crackle and allow to dry.
- Using Light Avocado, Aqua Sky, Teal Mint, Green Tree, and Wedgewood Blue, paint the mask surface in painterly strokes and allow to dry.
- Mix (1) part Texture Sand Paste with (4) parts White Modeling Paste. After a desired consistency is reached, add a small amount of Light Avocado to the paste, creating a muted green color.
- Apply the mix to the surface of the mask using a palette knife, leaving parts of the previous layer exposed, particularly spots that have a lot of crackle or interesting color play. (Play up the texture by tapping the palette knife against the surface and lightly dragging it. Have fun with this!)
- Mix (4) parts White Modeling Paste with (1) part Media Fluid Acrylic to make several individual pastes in Cobalt Turquoise Hue, Phthalo Green-Blue, Quinacridone Violet, Quinacridone Magenta, Green Gold, and Cobalt Teal Hue.
- Using a palette knife, lightly skim the Cobalt Turquoise Hue/White Modeling Paste mix over the existing textured surface in various spots.
- Using the same method described in Step 7, apply the Cobalt Teal Hue paste in various spots.
- Repeat this technique with the Quinacridone Magenta and Quinacridone Violet mixes.
- Apply the Green Gold mix to the mask.
- Apply the Phthalo Green-Blue mix to the mask and allow to dry.
