Honor the canine in your life with a portrait painted on black velvet with Americana® Acrylics.

SUPPLIES

    • scissors
    • staple gun
    • small and medium brushes
    • paint pen
    • black velvet
    • stretcher bars
    • camera

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Cut the velvet approximately 3" bigger than the frame. Wrap one end over the frame and use a staple gun to secure in place. Continue this process on all four sides, making sure the velvet is stretched taut.
    2. Take a portrait style photo of the dog and print it according to the size of the canvas. Transfer the image onto the velvet using a white paint pen or chalk.

    4. Use a medium flat brush to paint the dog's muzzle area in Snow White. (Apply the paint lightly leaving some areas of the velvet exposed. Saturate the brush in water to blend the paint smoothly onto the velvet.) Use a medium brush to paint the other areas of the dog's face in Bahama Blue and Indian Turquoise. Use a small brush to add highlights in Purple Cow and Dragon Fruit.

    6. Use a medium brush to paint the body in Snow White and Bahama Blue. Use a small brush to add highlights in Purple Cow and Bahama Blue.

    8. Use a small brush to paint the eyes and nose in Burnt Sienna. Use a small brush to add highlights in Bahama Blue and Snow White.
