Children's Numbered Bookcase

This simple bookcase can store toys, books, and other necessities.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • paper towels
    • sandpaper
    • ruler
    • pencil
    • 2" flat brush
    • cosmetic sponge
    • power saw
    • electric drill
    • screws
    • Kreg Jig
    • wood boards

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Cut six 1" x 4" boards that measure 32-1/2" and twelve 1" x 4"boards that measure 34".
    2. Instruction #1
    3. Connect three of the 32-1/2" pieces using pocket holes and screws. Repeat for the remaining three of the same size. (These will be the shelves.)
    4. Instruction #2
    5. Drill pocket holes into each end of the remaining six 34" wooden pieces and set aside. (These are the sides of the shelf.)

    7. Connect three of the 34" pieces using the same technique as step 2. Repeat with the another three 34" pieces. (These will be the top and bottom of the shelf.)
    8. Lightly sand all wooden pieces, focusing on the pocket hole areas.
    9. Paint all pieces, including the shelves, top, bottom, and sides of the bookcase, with Vintage. (The only part that is not necessary to paint is the bottom.)

    11. Once the paint is dry, start with the bottom piece and attach three of the loose pieces to the side. (Make sure the pocket holes are inside the bookcase. For the bottom piece, have the pocket holes on the bottom.)

    13. Repeat with the other three loose pieces on the other side.

    15. Insert the shelf into the U shape and make sure it is equally spaced on all sides. (This one is 12" from the bottom.)
    16. Repeat for the next shelf.

    18. Connect the top piece using the same technique as the bottom piece. (See step 7.)
    19. Position the Americana Decor Olde World Numbers Stencil on the front left of the bookshelf. Using a cosmetic sponge, apply Relic to the stencil. Lift the stencil; allow the paint to dry. Repeat to number the other two shelves.

    21. Lightly sand the entire bookcase, focusing on the stenciled areas.

    23. Apply Ultra-Matte Varnish to the entire bookcase.
