Card Holder Altered Book

Turn an old book into an organizer and make it Mixed media art too!

SUPPLIES

    • 3/4" flat brush
    • baby wipes
    • craft glue
    • 1" painter's tape
    • #1 liner brush
    • palette knife
    • old book with 250 pages or less
    • clear plastic cling wrap
    • textured buttons

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Start with tearing out 6-7 pages, spaced evenly throughout book. Fold first page in 1/2 toward the spine and measure remaining space to determine design area available.

    3. Wrap pages of the book with clear plastic cling wrap and secure with blue painter's tape, placing the tape evenly along the inside edge of cover. Apply Gesso to both outside and inside covers of the book.

    5. Tear the books pages into pieces and adhere to inside cover, outside cover and spine with Matte Medium. Use a 3/4" Flat brush to Apply a wash of Phthalo Blue over all book text.

    7. Place Baroque stencil on corners and apply Crackle paste with a palette knife. Repeat on all 4 corners. Let dry completely
    8. Then use the Serendipity stencil. Use the word "Create" or your choice of word and apply crackle paste with Palette Knife. Let dry completely.

    10. Use #1 Liner brush and mix (1) part Matte Medium with a small amount of Phthalo Blue to create a glaze. Brush all over the words and designs. Then while still wet, wipe back with a baby wipe. Rinse brush. Then use same brush and load with Phthalo Blue to shade word and floral designs. Rinse brush.

    12. Use a 3/4" Flat brush to paint the outside cover the same as step 3. Rinse brush. Let dry completely. Use a cosmetic sponge and load with Payne's Grey to stencil the Baroque stencil around all edges and corners. Wash stencil. Then use Serendipity to stencil the word "create" also with Payne's Grey. Wash Stencil. Let completely dry.

    14. Use a 3/4" flat brush and load with Ultra Matte Varnish to seal the front and back of book. Rinse brush.
    15. Fold each page in half toward the spine.

    17. Use a 3/4" Flat brush and paint the textured buttons with Gesso. Rinse brush. Let dry completely. Then use same brush to mix the same glaze as step.6 and repeat with wiping back with baby wipe while still wet. Rinse brush. Then use a craft glue to adhere buttons to each end of the spine at the base of where the pages are folded pages.

    19. Once fully dry, you can use this fan folded card holder for business cards, postcards, photos, ATC's, or even recipes.
