Inspired by Andy`s stamps I took my imagination to a dry deserted land, hearing tent flaps swishing in the breeze, the sounds of the insects scurrying and the archaeologists digging, finding unknown artifacts and recording it all in a little old book.
My journey took me to dying fabric with a mix of water and paint, building 3D skulls from stamps, painting, crackling and creating slides.
Thank you so much for looking
Step one : Start by inking up the stamp, stamp a few times.
Step two : Snip them out with scissors as shown.
Step Three : Paint the images sparingly with Titan Buff, Burnt Sienna and Raw Umber.
Adhere the layers together using DecoArt Media Liquid Glass, then apply it to the darker areas of the skull.
Step Four : Stamp the image again, cut out leaving a small border. Place it on the book and draw around as shown. Use a Craft knife and start cutting away the pages to create and aperture in the book.
Step Five : Use Matte Medium to adhere all the pages together except the top two for now, leave to dry.
Step Six : Apply a coat of Black Gesso to the base and dry. Apply Matte Medium randomly over the top then sprinkle with a little grit and sand.
Playing around with the skulls placement.
Step Seven : Apply Gesso to the top two pages and then on the opposite side. Allow to dry.
Step Eight : Add more grit and sand inside the aperture, fix the skull in place with DecoArt Media Liquid Glass, add embellishments. Cut clear acetate to size before sandwiching between the bottom and top pages using the liquid Glass, creating a viewing window.
Step Nine : Apply a coat of Clear Crackle Glaze on top of the Black Gesso, leave to dry.
Step Ten : Apply DecoArt Media Antiquing Cream in Titanium White, let dry then use a damp cloth to remove excess, buff with a dry cloth.
Step Eleven : Stamp the image onto tissue paper, use a wet brush and go around the part you want to use, it`s much easier to tear it away when wet.
Step Twelve : Create embellishments - Cut two acetate squares to fit inside the slide, place the image in between then use the Liquid Glass to seal it all in place. Apply masking tape to the sides allowing for more slides to be attached.
Step Thirteen : Add more slides, use masking tape back and front, attach to side of book with tape before applying Black Gesso to cover all the tape.
Step Fourteen : How to color fabric -Take a bowl add water and a drop of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic in Burnt Sienna, mix. Drop fabric in until covered, squeeze excess liquid out, use a heat tool to dry it off before stamping image.
Step Fifteen : Color paper/ fabric in different water paint mixes as before, add stamping, embellishments then layer it all up.
