Paper Decou-Page™

Keep paper from yellowing over time with this acid-free formula. The matte finish was designed with paper crafters and scrapbookers in mind to protect valuable photos and papers.

How to Use Decou-Page

Prepare the surface by sanding or cleaning. Paint a base coat of color, if desired, and allow to dry thoroughly. Cut your paper to fit the surface. Apply medium coats of Decou-Page to the surface and to the back of the paper. Position the paper on the surface and use a brush or brayer to smooth out any bubbles or creases, working from the center out to the edges. Allow to dry for 15-20 minutes and then apply a coat of Decou-Page over the top of everything. Apply 2-3 more coats, drying thoroughly between coats. For a smooth, final finish, dampen your brush before applying the final coat. When completely dry, sand off any uneven edges. Allow the final coat to dry for 24 hours before use.

TO USE ON FABRIC

Pre-wash and dry fabric without any fabric softeners. Apply a coat of Fabric Decou-Page™ and allow to dry. This will prevent fraying of the fabric. Cut fabric to desired shape and size, then apply thin, even coats on the back of the fabric piece and on the surface where you are applying it. Position fabric and apply additional thin coats over top of the fabric, smoothing out wrinkles as you go. For an even smoother finish, dampen brush before applying the last coat. Dry 30-45 minutes between coats. After 72 hours, machine wash in cold water, in a gentle cycle. Use soap and water to clean up drips as needed, while the Decou-Page is still wet.

TO USE OUTDOORS

Prepare the surface by sanding or cleaning. Paint a base coat of color, if desired, and allow to dry thoroughly. Cut your paper to fit the surface. Apply medium coats of Outdoor Decou-Page™ to the surface and to the back of the paper. Position the paper on the surface and use a brush or brayer to smooth out any bubbles or creases, working from the center out to the edges. Allow to dry for 15-20 minutes and then apply a coat of Outdoor Decou-Page™ over the top of everything. Apply 2-3 more coats, allowing to dry thoroughly between coats. For a smooth, final finish, dampen your brush before applying the final coat. When completely dry, sand off any uneven edges. Allow the final coat to dry for 7 days before placing outdoors. Seal as needed for added durability.

TO MAKE DISHWASHER-SAFE

Clean surface with rubbing alcohol prior to application. Use a brush or sponge applicator to apply a generous amount of Dishwasher-Safe Decou-Page™ in even coats on both the desired surface and the back of the paper cut-out. Position the paper immediately on the surface and smooth it out, working from the center out to the edges. Apply 2-3 additional coats to ensure full coverage on all exposed paper and edges. Allow to dry 1-2 hours between top coats. Allow the project to fully cure for 14 days before washing in the diswasher on the top rack.

TO USE THE DISHWASHER-SAFE FORMULA WITH PAINTS

Take special care when embellishing a Dishwasher-Safe Decou-Page project with Americana Gloss Enamels or Americana Multi-Surface Acrylic paints. When using the paints on top of decoupaged areas, they will become permanent once fully cured and can withstand dish-washing without baking first. When using the paints directly on the glass surface and not on top of a decoupaged area, the project is no longer dishwasher-safe and must be gently hand-washed. Baking items with Dishwasher-Safe Decou-Page™ sections on them will discolor the paper. Allow to air-dry to cure before using.

Tips for Decou-Page

Prevent fraying of fabric by allowing the Fabric Decou-Page™ to dry fully before cutting out a shape.

Increase the effects of Crystal Glitter Decou-Page™ and Antique Decou-Page™ by applying multiple coats until desired intensity is achieved.

Use a brush or brayer to smooth out the paper or fabric, always starting in the center and working outward to the edges.

Allow the decoupaged piece to dry thoroughly before sanding any uneven edges away.

Minimize brush strokes by using a soft bristled brush and lightly sanding between coats.

Apply designs to only the backs of plates or to the edges of other serving platters. Decou-Page is non-toxic, but is not FDA approved to come in contact with food or lips.

Avoid wrinkles in your project by applying a thick coat of Decou-Page and allowing sufficient dry time between coats.

Use photo copies of original photographs to preserve memories.

Print images on laser or laserjet printers when possible, so the ink will not smear. If you use an inkjet printer, allow the image to dry and then use a spray sealer to lightly coat each side multiple times.
