Shabby Chic Herb Planters

Shabby Chic Herb Planters

I threw a really fun and cute little party last week for all my new neighbors. It was a Favorite Things party and I can't wait to share the details with you. But today I'm going to show you one of the things we did for party favors--we sent each guest home with a cute little herb planter. The theme of the party was spring with lots of mint and coral colors and these little plants were the perfect idea for a favor. Plus, basil is one of my favorite things! I always have a little basil plant on my window sill for fresh herbs.

Items Needed:

  • Small Tin Cans
  • Sand Paper
  • Lace Ribbon
  • Glue Dots Or Hot Glue Gun
  • Basil Plant

Instructions:

Clean off the can and dry it. Then paint it with two coats of the Chalky Finish color of your choice. Gently sand it so some of the ridges show through. Wipe it down. Wrap the lace around the can and secure it with glue dots or hot glue.

Plant the basil in the pot. You can hammer some nail holes in the bottom for drainage, but people will probably want to replant these since the can is so small.

This party was a blast and everyone loved the little herb planters as favors. It's such a great gift idea for anyone--teachers, friends, neighbors, anyone who likes to cook. Basil isn't hard to keep alive, just give it a little water every other day. Don't overwater it though because it will rot.
